- Shape, size and color: about 1600 g in males and about 1300 g in females. Weight of liver at birth is 150 g. Liver is reddish brown in color.
- Anatomical Position: Hold the liver in such a way that
- Groove for the inferior vena cava on the posterior surface.
- Broad base of wedge-shaped liver is on the right.
- Smooth convexo-concavo-convex surface faces upward.
4. External Features: Five surfaces: Anterior, posterior, superior, inferior and right. One border: Inferior.
Anatomical lobes: Right lobe, left lobe, caudate lobe and quadrate lobFalse
5. ligaments
- False ligaments
Falciform ligament
Coronary ligaments
Right triangular ligament
Left triangular ligament

- True ligaments
Ligamentum teres
Ligamentum venosum
6. Arterial Supply
- Hepatic artery: Liver receives 20% of its blood supply from hepatic artery. This is oxygenated blood.
- Portal vein: Liver receives 80% of its blood supply from portal vein. This is nutrient-rich venous blood
7.Venous Drainage: Hepatic sinusoids drain into interlobular veins, which join to form sublobular veins. These in turn unite to form the hepatic veins which drain directly into the inferior vena cava
8. Nerve Supply: Sympathetic fibres that are derived from the coeliac plexus. They run along the vessels in the free margin of the lesser omentum and enter the porta hepatis.
Parasympathetic fibres that are derived from hepatic branch of the anterior vagal trunk
